Our Commitment to Net Zero

Motion exists to help people move more. That only makes sense on a healthy planet, so Always Together Limited — the company behind Motion — is committed to reaching net zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2045.

What We're Committing To

Net zero by 2045 means that by then, the emissions from running our business will be reduced as far as practically possible, with any small remainder balanced by verified carbon removal. Reduction comes first: offsetting is a last resort for what we genuinely cannot eliminate, not a substitute for cutting emissions.

Where Our Footprint Comes From

Motion is a digital product built by a small team, so our footprint looks different from that of a company shipping physical goods. Our main sources of emissions are:

  • Cloud infrastructure — the servers and networks that run our app and website
  • Equipment — the devices our team works on, and the emissions embodied in making them
  • Ways of working — energy used by our team day to day, and any business travel

How We're Getting There

Our plan is deliberately simple:

  • Measure — track the emissions from our infrastructure and operations so we know where we stand
  • Reduce — choose efficient, well-run infrastructure, keep our website lightweight and static, extend the life of our hardware, and avoid unnecessary travel
  • Remove — balance the small remainder through verified carbon removal as we approach 2045

Keeping Ourselves Honest

A target nearly twenty years out is easy to announce and easy to forget. We'll review our progress against this commitment regularly and update this page as our plans firm up, so you can see how we're doing — not just what we've promised.
